WhitePreservationist,

We have all the heavyweights in poetry, philosophy, art... etc on our side. Let no one forget this fact. I always find it hilarious when some leftist starts reading Nietzsche and Heidegger as if they were leftists. An example from my schooling experience, leftist English teachers (they all are...) would never, and I mean never, bring up that the Australian poets Lawson and Paterson were racial nationalists.

It was only until recently I too was made aware of the Rightist nature of Lawrence.

Thanks for recently bringing a couple of these fascinating essays by Lawrence to our attention. I had no idea he was interested in and wrote about racial issues.

I'm a fan of his poetry but never read very much of his literary criticism or many of his essays and was entirely unaware that he wrote about racial issues with such frankness.

The only way to determine if D. H. Lawrence's reading of Moby Dick makes sense is to read Moby Dick. It could be that Melville really did have a deep prophetic insight into future direction of American civilization. And if Melville did not have this insight, then Lawrence certainly did.

I'm tempted to view this provocative bit of literary criticism as just incoherent nonsense.

Personally, it would be great if Melville was trying to use Moby Dick to symbolically articulate the doom of the White race in America; this would mean that Melville (writing in the first half of the nineteenth century) had prophetic insight, and I would be tempted to explore his life and work further in order to uncover what he saw as the source of our race's coming tragedy. Unfortunately, Lawrence doesn't give me much reason to believe this aside from his own convictions, which may be more influenced by Spengler's Decline of the West than Moby Dick.
