Making the World Safe for Pharaoh

obama2Barack Hussein Obama will soon be meeting the cadets of the Naval Academy. But not until steps are taken to protect his Imperial Presence from these officers and gentlemen.

The Washington Times has revealed that Obama will only face these men and women sworn to protect the Constitution if they are shorn of their ceremonial swords. Just in case, umbrellas are also verboten.

The Conservatives are laughing. But a little research reveals that the policy of disarming the military and police in the Presence of the Leader of the Free World goes back to Republican days. The Naval cadets have been unable to carry a blade in the same room as their Commander-in-Chief since Bush II and 9/11 (according to the public affairs officer who scrambled to protect the reputation of the current incumbent). Was Bush II was afraid a mission might have been accomplished?

Any rate, President Bill Clinton protected his new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Louis Freeh. When Freeh was to first met his agents they were all disarmed. Many agents passed on this chance to be in the immediate atmosphere with these demi-gods. This is particularly telling since the FBI is the praetorian political police of the government especially at the upper levels.

Bush I (and Ronald Reagan) ensured that soldiers and Marines at photo ops generally have the firing pins removed from their rifles. A member of the Rapid Deployment Force and the 82nd ABN told me that when Reagan came to observe a demonstration all the firing pins were confiscated. Then, not satisfied with this, plastic ties were attached to keep the bolts from closing. He never was close enough to Reagan to even see him.

The best contrast between Liberty and Despotism was Bush I and the Tyrant Saddam Hussein. The leader of the Free World strutted in to see “his” soldiers during Desert Shield (the work up to Desert Storm) on Thanksgiving. Only soldiers and Marines with unblemished records were admitted to the mess hall and, of course, surrendered their firing pins before admission. At the same time, the Tyrant Saddam was photographed amongst the oppressed Iraqis who demonstrated their fear of his regime by firing their AK-47s, full automatic, into the air around him.

There are so many departure points for thought exercises in these tales.

The democratic and “diverse” forces of the United States must be clamped down whenever the Emperor is in the neighborhood. Another strength for diversity, I guess.

Should citizens be surprised at pressures for gun control when the rulers don’t even trust their own military or even the political police? I wonder if Stalin felt it necessary to disarm Beria before meeting with him?

Plato said that the mark of a tyrant is that he fears his own people.

Jefferson addresses this as well, saying: “When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”

Modern America has moved beyond Jefferson. Liberty has been eroded where not eradicated, yet the government still fears the population. But, if they have their way with the destruction of the Bill of Rights, the managers of multi-cultural America will be able to sleep better at night.

To what higher goal could modern America aspire?

  1. I do find this interesting. But let’s be fair; if an American were to assasinate the POTUS, that person and that person alone would suffer the consequences. If an Iraqi had assasinated Saddam (or any Arab their leader), that person and their family would suffer greatly.
