The most problematic feature of the Northwest Quartet, like The Turner Diaries, is the author’s penchant for genocidal fantasies, directed not just at non-whites, but at white people as well. The most famous such passage in The Turner Diaries tells of the “day of the rope” in which white race-traitors, particularly those who engaged in inter-racial sex, are lynched by the thousands.

Covington makes clear that the creation of a white homeland would not, and indeed could not, require the mass killing of non-whites, even though moral qualms about mass murder of civilians tend to be set aside during warfare. Such killing would be logistically impossible for a small guerrilla army, and it would be unnecessary, since Covington thinks that most non-whites could be induced to flee simply by destroying their employment and social support networks through targeted killings, beatings, and property destruction, mostly aimed at the whites who profit from and facilitate their presence.

He is less surgical and discerning in choosing his white victims, both during the war of liberation and the subsequent “cleanup.” Covington’s death list contains not just white operatives and allies of the regime, but three whole categories of individuals: lawyers, race-mixers (meaning anyone who has had interracial sex, regardless of issue), and homosexuals. This is problematic, because if white nationalism begins making progress in the Northwest, these views will be broadcast far and wide to scare white people away from white nationalism and into conformity with the system that is killing us. Beyond that, these lapses are at odds with the generally rational and pragmatic character of Covington’s political thought.

First, spare the lawyers. Although killing lawyers has the authority of the Bard, and everyone enjoys a good lawyer joke, among white nationalists of my acquaintance, lawyers are the best represented profession. Thus it seems foolish to treat all lawyers as enemies, since this will drive otherwise sympathetic and useful individuals into the arms of the system for protection.

Second, it is easy to understand why white nationalists see homosexuals as enemies, since the organized homosexual community is an integral part of the anti-white governing coalition. Beyond that, white nationalism is steeped in a right-wing, conservative subculture with strong currents of anti-homosexual sentiment, which are constantly stoked by the organized homosexual community.

But Covington’s stated rationale for murdering homosexuals is that homosexuality is a mental illness. I think that homosexuality is neither a sin (an offense against the God of the Jews) nor an illness, but rather it is something that might be called a “natural suboptimal condition,” like baldness or myopia or a propensity to pack on the pounds.

But let’s just grant Covington’s premise for the sake of argument. So what about all the other mental illnesses? Covington does not mention if melancholics, manic depressives, schizophrenics, paranoiacs, compulsive liars, kleptomaniacs, alcoholics, and other sufferers of mental maladies will be marked for death.

The reason for this is obvious: homosexuals are marked for death not because they suffer from a mental illness, but because the Bible—the Jewish Torah—tells us so. This is probably the source of the extreme animus toward race-mixers as well. It is, to put it mildly, a rather astonishing lapse. It makes it all too easy to parody white nationalists as Bible-thumping hayseeds and hillbilly psychopaths.

It also serves to drive otherwise sympathetic and useful individuals—who might be guilty of nothing more than an experimental homosexual or inter-racial dalliance while in college or the military, where such experimentation is common—into the arms of the system for protection.

What would Aryan reason, as opposed to Jewish superstition, dictate in dealing with homosexuals and race-mixers?

First, it is no policy or solution to postulate that when a white nationalist state is founded it will simply chase away or kill the homosexuals on its territory, for inevitably new homosexuals will appear (it does not matter whether by nature or nurture or both). Furthermore, these individuals will manifestly not be “one of them” (the anti-white ruling coalition) but “one of us” (a racially-conscious white person, raised in a racially homogenous and self-conscious society).

On Covington’s premise, the policy a rational society adopts to homosexuality is an instance of the larger policy it should adopt toward mental illness. The appropriate attitude toward mental illness is not hatred but pity and compassion. It is reasonable to fear the unknown, but unreasonable to persist in one’s ignorance. The idea that homosexuality should be treated as a crime is a relic of benighted times when people thought that other mental illnesses were evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession and should be “treated” by torture and burning at the stake.

Mental illness is not a crime. If mentally ill people commit crimes, we punish the crimes, not the illness. Thus it would be inhuman to exile or kill our relatives simply because they suffer from manic depression or paranoia. It would be arbitrary to treat homosexuality any differently. If homosexuality is a mental illness, not a crime, then it should be treated as an illness. If it can be cured, then cure it. If it cannot be cured but can be lived with, then live with it. If it is genetically determined, then screen for it and try to decrease its representation in the next generation. (If homosexuality has a genetic component, then homosexuals should not be encouraged to “pass” as straight and pass on their genes to their children, but to live as homosexuals and take their genes out of the next generation.)

In a healthy society, people should, of course, be free to associate with or avoid homosexuals just as they are free to associate with or avoid people who suffer from other mental maladies. But to determine rational policies and attitudes toward homosexuality, one would have to compare it to other such illnesses. One would have to determine whether homosexuals are more or less reliable friends, colleagues, and comrades than, say, manic depressives, alcoholics, or compulsive liars.

Of course there would be no problems excluding homosexuals from the pup tents of boy scouts, the locker rooms of school children, or the barracks of the military. There would be no nonsense about homosexuals marrying or adopting children, which seeks to erase the distinction between the normal and the abnormal. Should society also be expected to provide everyone who thinks himself Napoleon a coronation and everyone who thinks himself Jesus a crucifixion?

The question of race-mixing is more complicated. First, the problem is not interracial sex or marriage per se. The problem is interracial babies. Of course there are no interracial babies without interracial sex, but not all interracial sex produces babies. The problem with multi-racial societies is that inter-racial sex is inevitable, because it is perfectly natural and normal for people to take advantage of a wider range of possible mates and sexual partners.

Many racialists claim that they are immune to inter-racial attractions, that they have some sort of genetic aversion. This may well be true of a tiny percentage of people, but it is surely not true of most. There may well be an instinct for mating with one’s kind, but there is no reason to think that this instinct will always trump the other instincts under certain circumstances, particularly given the power of the sex drive.

For instance, the person who had the single greatest influence on my awakening on race and the Jewish question obviously had a great deal of instinctive feeling for his own kind. But that feeling was insufficient to trump his conflicting desires for a home and a family with a woman who has not corrupted by feminism and American junk culture. So he ended up marrying a woman from the Philippines. The marriage was without issue, thank goodness, and it did not last. Now he is married to a white woman who has given him three sons. Yes, he made a potentially terrible mistake, but the idea that this man has committed a capital offense is ludicrous.

Interracial sex is not only inevitable in a multi-racial society, it is being relentlessly promoted by every organ of the establishment. (The same is true of the normalization of homosexuality.) The propaganda is particularly intense on college campuses, where sexual experimentation has always been more common. The number of college students who have had interracial dalliances is already quite high, and if present conditions continue, it will rapidly reach the point of saturation. (We will soon have a better idea if some are genetically immune to the lure of exotic flesh.)

But the percentage of these dalliances that turn into long-term interracial relationships, much less marriage and child-rearing, is still small. Indeed, some such encounters may be the first steps down the road to a full racial awakening. (This is true of one young woman of my acquaintance, who was raped by her black boyfriend.) Again, the idea that these people have committed not just a mistake but a capital crime is offensive to reason. These people are victims of our present regime, not criminals.

What then should be the attitude of a white nationalist regime to race-mixers? First, all whites who produce offspring with members of other races have, in effect, left our race for another. One cannot mix one’s blood without mixing one’s loyalties. We cannot reasonably expect that such people will be more loyal to their extended racial family than to their mixed-race children, and no white nationalist would ask them to. They could not, therefore, be citizens of a white ethnostate (much less would-be white nationalist leaders). Whites who have married non-whites without offspring or prospects of offspring clearly belong to a different category, but it is not clear that a different policy should apply.

As for whites who have had sexual relations with non-whites, or who married but then divorced non-whites without producing children: they should be able to become citizens of a white ethnostate without penalty. But this would not be possible without somehow addressing the irrational yet powerful antipathy they arouse in some racialists.

For the offenders, there needs to be a process of confession, contrition, cleansing, and atonement to incorporate them into a self-conscious white nation. Ideally, such a truth and reconciliation process should be modeled on a religious ceremony (how about a bath, for starters) rather than a legal proceeding if the atonement it produces is to be heartfelt and enduring.

But racialists need to change too. There is a larger principle here that applies to more than just sexual matters. A healthy new society can be made only by and from the products of today’s sick society. White nationalists are not an Elect, chosen by genes or by God to be immune to the corruptions of our age, thus licensing us to smugly look down upon and condemn the rest of humanity.

If there is any hope of our people at all, then most of them are capable of seeing the light, and the only thing that sets today’s white nationalists apart from them is . . . time. We saw first, but we will never be saved until they see as well.

This means that there is no room self-righteousness and much room for compassion. Indeed, the leaders of any revolution are likely to be worse rather than better than the average person in important respects. Not only are they imperfect to begin with, but given the dark necessities of revolution, they are likely to be monsters in the end. They may be creating a better world—but not for themselves.

Covington shows that he understands this in many subtle and funny ways. For instance, in The Hill of the Ravens, he remarks on how the veterans who created the Northwest American Republic shock their own grandchildren with the vulgar language and tastes inherited from Amurrica. Also, Covington’s self-portrait as “the Old Man” is hardly flattering and shows that he too is out of place in the republic he helped create.

Until we breed a race of flawless Nietzschean Supermen, we will have to muddle through with people who have a short list of essential virtues (honesty, courage, intelligence, loyalty, good-judgment, initiative) and a rather longer list of inessential flaws and past mistakes. No, I am not recommending that we try to get mileage out of creeps and kooks. Just virtuous, talented, committed, imperfect people.

Within the movement, we need to be willing to tolerate inessential flaws and past mistakes on the condition that people are honest and transparent about them. One can build with flawed materials, but only if one knows where the flaws are. We don’t want to put the guy who is hiding his dyslexia in charge of editing, the guy who is hiding his agoraphobia out distributing literature, an insecure buffoon in charge of picking up a VIP, or a creepy compulsive womanizer among the wives and daughters of comrades, etc.

A weakness is compounded by concealment. It does not become a virtue by being flaunted. But when one is willing to acknowledge one’s flaws, that is the first step toward rising above them. It is an opportunity for moral growth, a way of strengthening one’s character. Thus we have to penalize concealment and reward transparency.

For a white nationalist revolution to have any moral authority, its leaders must not just lead us to regaining control of our racial destiny. They must also lead us in self-criticism, self-purification, and atonement with the greater racial body.

First it would be helpful to examine the nature of sexuality itself, particularly male sexuality. I think it best approached by analogy to electricity. All of the wonderful electronic wonders of our age are driven by a very simply physical law: the insatiable desire for electrons to move from a cathode to an anode. They always choose the path of least resistance, and electrical engineers exploit this physical property of matter to produce everything from a basic ceiling fan to the computer I’m using to type this article.

It is undeniable that the Caucasian male sex drive is the engine of history. The genius of white men is a result of testosterone’s drive-enabling mental state combined with a reasonably high average population IQ and a higher capacity to produce geniuses through greater population variability. It could be that white males occupy a genetic “sweet spot” of reasonably high testosterone (as compared with Asian males) and reasonably high IQ, and this golden balance is what gives Western societies their advantage over Eastern civilizations, despite the latter’s higher average IQ. We have both the capacity and the drive to achieve great things.

One must wonder, then, what would happen to a society (and this affects all societies, not just Western ones), where men can have sexual gratification of the most graphic sort on-demand, continuously, effortlessly. Compare this to the numerous accounts of the medieval period of unconsummated love between a married lady and a knight, relationships more than Platonic but less than overtly romantic, and the great deeds such ladies inspired in gallant knights. Like an iPhone, the flow of current (i.e. sexual gratification) in such a relationship is strictly economized to optimize the real objective of the whole enterprise: the accomplishment of great deeds.

Historical Western limitations concerning sex are practically more of a testament to the power of sex than any sort of prudishness. As Solomon said (Proverbs 6:27), if a man takes fire into his bosom, can he expect his clothes to not be burned?

What would happen if I disassembled my iPhone and connected a small copper wire from the anode of the battery to the cathode? The current would choose that least path of resistance and all of the good produced by its journey by more tortuous paths would be lost. To what extent is the temptation of on-demand unlimited pornography, which is the situation every Internet-connected male is in, sapping the energy needed to grow families and push further into the technological frontier?

As a adherent of human microevolution, I know that incentives matter, and sexual incentives particularly so. Some creatures survive, and a subset of those reproduce. Sex is the signaling system that is supposed to reward procreation, and it is because of procreation’s singular evolutionary importance that the sexual signaling system is so powerful and pleasurable. It also implies that any twisting of wires in this system is going to have huge negative implications.

Pornography provides a payoff of sexual pleasure with nothing accomplished. There is no procreation, no love or devotion between husband and wife prerequisite for the healthy psychological development of children.

Pornography, through infinite variety, can even offer greater pleasure than monogamous sex, hitting the rewind button on our evolutionary development.

White men sit at a precipice evolutionarily. We are capable of the high-investment parenting (i.e. monogamy) necessary to sustain our civilizations, but still feel the pull of our lower evolutionary forebears. We are neither here nor there, and this tension between r and K strategies is omnipresent. To resist the dark forces of r was hard enough in our traditional medieval villages, where temptation was tempered by the threat of social ostracism for non-conformance, a sort of self-enforcing social contract that kept the village on the straight and narrow K path. Now the r haunts our every waking, solitary moment, always tempting with genetic specimens caricatured by technology to exploit our sexual preferences beyond the norm of real life. Pornography offers infinite variety, a key pleasure payoff for r strategies. This “variety” is of a much different sort than the medieval village. Let me explain.

Porn is an industry uniquely suited to the strengths of Jews. For its efficient production, it requires a level of exploitation and cruelty to women that most white males (in sufficient quantities to dominate a given industry) simply lack. It takes a cruel, Middle Eastern, woman-hating religion and culture to produce the stuff. This Jewish dominance leads to other consequences.

A friend of mine once pointed out that the degeneracy of Broadway plays and musicals, now almost obsessed with various sexual perversions and paraphilias (particularly homosexuality), cannot be attributed merely to a primarily homosexual market, a mere 10% at most of the Jewish population. He pointed out that the main market for Broadway productions actually consists of heterosexual Jews, and in this we see a key difference between Jews and non-Jews. Many Jewish heterosexual men enjoy watching homosexuals, transvestites, and other assorted freaks prance around a stage singing and dancing in mock irony. That which disgusts heterosexual European men entertains Jewish men.

So the variety which the porn market demands will inevitably be a Jewish variety. Some anti-pornography crusaders have claimed that the process of orgasm, with its intense chemical payload in the brain, causes a permanent imprinting of the sexual stimulus into the brain. If this is true, droves of Western men are having their minds imprinted with sexual stimuli produced from Jewish sexual deviancy.

The infinite appetite of the r strategy thus fed, it is easy for the K strategy to be discarded. From the reptilian brain’s point of view, sex is frequent and with high quality partners. Why bother with trying to please a wife, a real woman with stretch marks, needs, opinions and perhaps a little cellulite?

Sadly, not even the fantasy partners are as they appear. The advent of voice shifting technology (hardware where “talent” with other “assets” other than world-class singing ability — think Britney Spears — can be made to sound perfectly on pitch) has revolutionized pop music. Similarly, new filters and algorithms in video processing are coming online to make human bodies appear firmer, smooth and more “alive” and desirable than real life.

But what of the K strategy? Simply put, few men will now pursue it successfully, compromised internally by r temptations through pornography and externally through a hostile, feminist society and legal environment, as our own F. Roger Devlin has demonstrated. Part of pornography’s psychological appeal is its provision to males of a fantasy woman interested in selflessly providing sexual pleasure.

Feminism, and I think Devlin would agree, as one of its effects has caused women to become more self-focused sexually and has probably resulted in fewer normal sexually satisfying relationships between men and women. This contrast between the willing women of porn and the often cold and cruel behavior of the top 75% of women spurning the lower 75% of men in the modern sexual dystopia makes pornography all the more desirable to the average man. Men with their r-bias take it too far the other way into the unachievable sexual fantasies of pornography, but nevertheless there exists a population of men out there who would be more satisfied with a flesh-and-blood wife if she were not out whoring herself to the nearest alpha male.

All of this paints a dark picture, and it gets darker still. One might imagine that an obese, porn-addicted white male might at times reflect on his reality and become a little discouraged, perhaps enough to inspire him to a sort of Stoicism to make life the best it can be among the ruins. Yet with another click of the mouse he can enter the self-referential world of video games, and receive yet another set of false fitness signals to quell his discontent.

In the next installment we will cover this and my thoughts on how to live a life resisting these temptations in the late, great dystopic American empire.

A Movement from One Man’s Loins

The background of Westboro Baptist is more interesting than anybody would’ve expected. Church founder Fred Phelps graduated from his Kansas high school at the top of his class at the age of 16. He went on to become an influential civil rights lawyer but was disbarred for reasons that the film never makes clear. (According to a Mother Jones article on Phelps, it was for “allegedly being too abusive to witnesses.”) Westboro Baptist was founded in 1955, but it wasn’t until the early 90s that Phelps started to see acceptance of homosexuality as the thing destroying America.

According to critics, the only members of  Westboro Baptist are Phelps, his descendants, and their spouses. The man had thirteen children. According to Mother Jones, eleven of them have law degrees themselves, and as of 1999 there were 45 grandchildren. Of the original thirteen offspring, all but four are still affiliated with the church. Two agreed to be interviewed for Fall From Grace and accuse their father of child abuse. The pastor’s children who are still loyal to him deny the allegations.

The church’s first political battle took place in 1991. They felt that Gage Park in Topeka had been taken over by “fags” and pestered the city about it. Westboro Baptist started protesting locally anything related to homosexuality, like the funerals of people of suspected of dying of AIDS. Picketing Matthew Shepard’s funeral and harassing his parents in 1998 brought the group national attention. The movie shows a page from WB’s website that says “Matthew Shepard has been in hell for 2631 days” with “Eternity – 2631 days = Eternity” under it. Since then, anything that could focus the media on the group has been seen as a good excuse for a protest. Part of the thinking goes that America is a damned country, so anything that causes her people to die is something to celebrate.

The shrewdest PR move, if notoriety is the goal, has been protesting the funerals of US soldiers. Among the signs held up are “THANK GOD FOR 9/11″ and “THANK GOD FOR IEDS.” In the 1990s, Phelps’s church was attacked with an IED. Since the device is now the number one killer of Americans in Iraq, Westboro members are convinced that the wars in the Middle East are God’s revenge on America.

A Wrathful God

The term “hate group” gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of Westboro Baptist Church the term is accurate, as indicated by signs like “IT’S THE FAGS STUPID,” “FAGS DIE GOD LAUGHS,” and the honest “GOD HATES YOU.” Their theology is a form of Calvinism that holds that man is naturally depraved and only a select few are saved. The church’s FAQ answers the question “Doesn’t the Bible say that God loves everyone?” with a “No,” followed by an explanation. Westboro Baptist’s members feel that they are commanded to tell people they’re wrong, even if doing so is useless, since who is saved and who is damned has already been decided from the beginning of time.

Although I lost my faith long ago, I found myself taking a liking to Pastor Phelps and his church. There is something incredibly inspiring and, well, manly about a God filled with such hatred and wrath. Phelps came across as a real man, especially when contrasted with advocates of the hippie Jesus who were interviewed in opposition to him.

It’s pretty remarkable that nine out of thirteen of the founder’s children stayed with the most hated church in America. You usually can’t count on your kids sharing your political and theological beliefs in this day and age. For example, two of Ronald Regan’s four children became liberal activists. Phelps, whether through beating his kids or merely through the sheer force of his personality (aided, perhaps, by genes predisposed to accept authority), made sure his offspring followed in his footsteps. One daughter had ten kids. (Reagan, for comparison once again, had zero grandchildren.)

Phelps is an alpha at an almost supernatural level, akin to Brigham Young or Mohammed. He didn’t even need to find followers; he made them!

At one point Phelps is asked why he protested at the University of Kansas. He replies “Picketing KU at any time is good. I mean, that’s a hotbed of fag (suppressing a laugh) activity.” You get the impression that the Phelps clan is pissing people off because it’s fun and would do the same if they didn’t believe in God. One interviewee sticks out: a young woman named Sara, a granddaughter of Pastor Phelps. A well-spoken, attractive girl, she has a barely concealed smile when talking about the “fags” taking over.

One thing that’s for sure is that Fred Phelps is evolutionarily successful. White culture expects parents to raise their own children, and those who can’t afford kids are less likely than non-Asian minorities to have them. With a religion that boosts the fertility rate of the upper class, there may be eugenic breeding going on in Middle America. And while the theology of Westboro Baptist may alienate many people, I can’t help but consider revulsion towards American culture, no matter how impolitely expressed, as healthy.

Every year, children as young as infants and toddlers are brought to the Folsom Street Fair and Up Your Alley gay S&M events.

At these events, children witness public sex of the kinkiest sort, involving bondage, humiliation, torture, and urination.

Some of these children are dressed up in kiddie bondage gear, such as miniature dog collars.

This raises the obvious question: Are these children not just witnesses, but unwilling participants?

This is child abuse.

Is it unreasonable to think that people who get off on abusing one another might also get off on abusing children?

We have REPEATEDLY brought this child abuse to the attention of the San Francisco Mayor, the San Francisco Police, Governor Schwarzenegger, Representative Pelosi, and Senator Feinstein.

They have done nothing. They have not even acknowledged our concerns.

Thus we have to conclude: This is government-sponsored child abuse.

That is why we are here. That is why we are asking you to help.

Andrew Yeoman: At its heart National Anarchism is a purely political framework, but any group or religious movement can adopt it to advance the aim of establishing an autonomous region or community.  Religion has a special importance for National Anarchism as it is one of the most powerful motivating factors of human society, and it is vital for many religious traditions to form communities where their values are respected and recognized by the territorial administrators of the land they live on.

Forming communities exclusively on the basis of religious conviction is a perfectly acceptable option for National Anarchists.  National Anarchists have been known to advocate for autonomous Christian, Muslim, Pagan, and secular regions according to the values of the National Anarchist in question.  This is how traditional societies have operated for most of human history.

Any particular National Anarchist may advocate for areas to be administered according to certain religious values or even be a strictly secular enterprise, but that the ideal determining factor being the will of the people involved in a given region.

For purely practical reasons, some groups such as BANA take no official position on what religious values participants should have. However, activists are encouraged to have strong beliefs concerning the tradition they follow and tolerance of differences between comrades in the same struggle for national liberation.

TOQ Online: BANA got a lot of attention for protesting a rather large homosexual event in San Francisco. Tell me about that. Obviously it took some courage. What was the rationale for the protest? Are there homosexual National Anarchists?

Andrew Yeoman: The event in question was the Folsom Street Fair, an annual sado-masochist event in San Francisco that has been running for over 25 years. It is essentially a public orgy where any and all acts of sexual deviance take place in full view of the police.  In other words it’s the antithesis of sexual responsibility.

Our protest centers on the fact that children and minors — some as young as babies and three-year-olds dressed up in leather suits and dog collars — and were brought to witness the spectacle. Many are brought by adoptive gay parents who believe that having their children witness these events exposes them to greater diversity.

In our statement on the reasons for this protest, we made it clear that we can’t prevent adults engaging in risky or vile behavior, but we have the shared responsibility to prevent harm coming to children at these events who may be abused at home.  We have been criticized for appearing to be anti-gay or a square “right wing” group tolerating only Christian family values.  If that is the case, then my view is “so be it.”

Our goal is to represent the people in our tribe and the views of the people in our local area.  The overwhelming majority of people who have learned about this event through us have supported our actions 110 percent.  We even have our supporters among adult attendees who don’t like minors at the event, and among queers who believe it gives their community a bad name.

What is most telling is the complete lack of coverage from the mainstream media and government of an event that draws tens of thousands of people from across the country.  By saying nothing, we believe they are encouraging child abuse, recklessly promoting the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and ignoring the complaints of the vast majority of their constituents in San Francisco.

The ideology of National Anarchism makes no requirement on what kind of sexual preferences people take.  Although most National Anarchists hold traditionalist or conservative views of sexual relationships, I know of queer National Anarchists.  National Anarchists who are queer tend to have folkish views on racialism and may support establishing enclaves that are devoted to their lifestyle of choice.  To paraphrase Troy Southgate, the most well-known National Anarchist ideologue, there is every reason to support queer individuals to act as white blood cells in our society rather than pariahs.

The cultural and tribal goals of BANA necessitate the promotion of traditional relationships between men and women and the growth of successful families.  That does not mean we persecute individuals who have alternative lifestyles. On the contrary, alternatives are perfectly acceptable as long as differences of opinion are respected.

TOQ Online: Most nationalist groups are predominantly composed of single men. Is this true of BANA? Are there women, married couples, families with children?

Andrew Yeoman: To date BANA has been most successful with Bay Area youth.  BANA consists mostly of people under 30 and is about 70 percent male/30 percent female. However there is a growing trend of women and families supporting our campaigns.  I am very proud to share that we have been blessed with a pair of comrades becoming engaged, and we also have female members taking leadership roles within the network.  As a tribe it’s essential for us to have a wide cross-section of people at different stages of life and to foster positive and meaningful experiences for the people who become involved.

Although the youth predominate in our street actions, older members are involved in other ways, either as advisers or as advocates.

The website and YouTube channel that we use to share our experiences and events are the public record of BANA. Unfortunately, due to the limits of the technology, this acts as sort of a one-way mirror. There also many activities we do that for one reason or another don’t become publicized.

TOQ Online: What are some concrete skills and practices that BANA is developing in order to be a resilient and flourishing community even as California plunges from the First World into the Third World?

Andrew Yeoman: I divide our training curriculum along three lines: knowledge, skills, and experience.

For knowledge we have a very active book sharing club and discussion groups on European customs and culture.

For skills I stress those disciplines that help individuals become fully realized in the roles they wish to play in the network and their lives as a whole.  This can be anything from writing, public speaking, physical fitness, survival skills, protest organizing, and the art of diplomacy.  We want to share the experiences and skills we have learned so we can mentor new members of the tribe in the ways of community organizing.

The culmination of this work is to prepare activists for the challenges and obstacles they will face while undertaking political struggles. The only way to do this is through the hard work of experience and winning hearts and minds to our cause.  As far as I’m concerning, a person cannot call him or herself a BANA activist without taking public action to win our people over to our cause or create allies in other tribes that respect our differences.

It is my belief that all political movements are defined by what they do and how they are viewed by the community they represent.  If the actions of the movement are inconsistent with the prevailing cultural attitudes of those people, they will be rejected for being incompatible with the people’s desires.

To date National Anarchists are known, significantly in my opinion, for their actions rather than their words.  We are a young movement, and the evolution of the National Anarchist ideas since the year 2000 has been extraordinary.  There are few writers who write objectively in favor of National Anarchism, yet our influence has dominated discussions of Left wing anarchists for the last few years.

It is also significant that the goals of BANA and other National Anarchists are modest in comparison with political movements who have macroscopic world views that pit themselves against a host of large national, racial, or corporate interests.  BANA’s focus is just the opposite, resting exclusively on representing the interests of our people in the nine Bay Area counties and no further.

In practical terms we train our cadre in the arts of self-sufficiency, gardening, self-defense, renewable energy, mutual aid, technology, and provide a support network for people.

As the slide into Third World status accelerates, as it has been, I believe that a community utilizing this model of organizing and training will produce the leaders and support network capable of handling sensitive situations with greater skill and determination than activists who do not continually strive to find, rectify, and eliminate blind spots that could compromise the success of our mission: to represent and defend the interests of our tribe and like-minded people.

TOQ Online: Let’s end on a visionary note. What do you hope BANA will have accomplished in ten years’ time? What form would you like the BANA community to take as it develops?

Andrew Yeoman: In ten years’ time BANA will be one of a number of regional autonomous networks that support each other in providing a social movement of activists who are neither Left nor Right but true to their cultural heritage and act to fully realize the desires of its membership without compromise.

It is my desire that BANA, in line with the demographic reality of California today, develop to not just represent the interests of my tribe but instead represent the interests of hundreds of tribes working in concert on mutually beneficial objectives.

When a million tribes rise up and refuse to acknowledge authorities higher than themselves, the global system will lose the base it depends on for its existence, and the first stage of our goals will be achieved. Then the Tribes will be free to follow their destiny as they see fit, from each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs.

Another family gathering has reminded me of the always-depressing shape of too many White family trees — a family of five children that begets two grandchildren, a family of three children that begets none, and so on.  We are a race that has been sapped of our very will to exist — concerned with the continuation of every living thing on earth but its own people.  Could the irony of this ever be pointed out to a childless, 40-something White couple who work for an environmental advocacy group?

1.  Careerism. These are the young Whites — smart, attractive and often accomplished — who have decided that the law firm, the non-profit organization or the university will command their lives.  Social messages have likely played a big part here.  The coolest life trajectories on television are career-based.  The absurd ones are family-based.  I fear women are particularly victimized by this one.  They are told that children are messy and uncool, but that making partner at the law firm is a true woman’s calling.  But I can pretty much guarantee you that these woman aren’t happy — childless and sucking down their Diet Cokes at 47.
